Over the next few weeks I plan to introduce a few authors. Today I’d like you to meet Kristina Knight, fellow Crimson Romance author. Kristina’s Crimson debut, “What a Texas Girl Wants” is available today! So after you get to know her here, go and check out her book.
Me: Tell me a little about yourself.
Kristina Knight: I’m a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll! At least that’s what my mom says. I was raised in a little town in Missouri, my grandfather was a rancher so I had tons of pets and animals around me growing up. But I’m still a wimp when it comes to mice (even hamsters give me the heebies), spiders (and most other insects…*shiver*) and snakes. My husband, daughter and I live on the North Coast of Ohio where we can be found playing around. Constantly. We are soooo not serious people!
Me: Describe your journey to becoming published?
KK:I’m one of those people who say they’ve been writing forever. The first ‘book’ I remember attempting to write was a girl-power, tweeny version of The Three Musketeers – my best friend, Shalon, decided we should write novels over summer break. She was done on Day Two, I toiled along all summer…but I had a ball doing it! I veered into journalism out of college because I thought writers had to be Interesting. And I very much didn’t think I was…but I never stopped writing my stories and I’m thrilled to be part of the Crimson Romance launch!
Me: Tell me about your book?
KK: What a Texas Girl Wants is a reunion romance/marriage of convenience story. Kathleen & Jackson, who each had a crush on the other in college, wake up on a Mexican beach, hung over and married. But before they can undo the damage, her family finds out, and they’re forced to continue the charade back home in Texas. Will true love conquer all? You’ll have to read to find out!
Me: Who or what inspires you as a writer?
KK: I’m inspired by a lot of things. A song lyric might spark an idea or a movie clip or an overheard conversation. One thing that never changes, though, is my need to write. I love writing stories, exploring characters and issues – and, added benefit, I can be a tourist from my living room without having to pack or deal with airport security!
Me: When do you make time for writing?
KK: Whenever I have the time! With a freelance writing career, a radio show, a demanding 3 year old, a husband…I take whatever free moments I can to write. My iPad is always with me, I doodle story ideas and character sketches and I’ve actually written two rough drafts on it!
Me: Why do you write romance?
KK: Because I love a happy ending. And I think we all deserve happy endings in real life. I think romance novels inspire people to look for the magical in their own lives and to take chances – on love and on personal happiness.
Me: What advice do you have for other writers?
KK: Don’t. Ever. Give. Up. It’s been said a lot, but keep pursuing your goals. You are the only person who can tell your stories. So keep writing and keep honing your craft. Find a great critique partner or group and keep moving forward!
